After years of work repairing the dam and spillway, building fish breeding structures, adding trails and pavilions, and generally making the surrounding landscape suitable for all visitors, shimmering blue water is beginning to dominate.
22 May 2022, the Somerset Daily American reports that “the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has given the authorization to refill the lake.”
The lake is filling slowly to allow the dam to saturate, and control structures observed. Some fish are being added, and catch and release fishing is permitted.
The official reopening hasn’t been announced but is expected soon.
Boating is also allowed for kayaks and canoes since the water hasn’t reached the boat ramps.
Most everything is done regarding the lake, and now it’s time to wait patiently for more water.
