ALERT! GAP TRAIL CLOSING FOR BIRDGE REPAIRS | NOV 8, 2022

To our trail community, we want you all to be aware that this fall, Somerset County will be closing the GAP from the Harnedsville Trail Head (Mile Marker 59) to the Markelton Trail Head (Mile Marker 50). The County has hired Crilon Corp. to do a major trail reconstruction project where they will be completely removing the decking and rail road ties at the Pinkerton High Bridge, Pinkerton Low Bridge, and the Harnedsville Bridge. They will then replace the decking with concrete slabs. The County is currently waiting for a permit approval to come through, and then the contractor will get started. We will try our best to give the trail community a heads up, but with winter quickly approaching, the contractor will need to get started as soon as we have permit approvals. We apologize to anyone who this might inconvenience. The trail will reopen in the spring time with three new decking systems that will last a lifetime.
Please note, this area will be EXTREMELY dangerous during this time. There will be NO deck system on these bridges, and there will be constant heavy equipment running the trail. Please find an alternate route, as this 9-mile section will be CLOSED.
We will continue to keep everyone updated as we move forward with this project. Thank you for your understanding, as we continue to improve the Great Allegheny Passage in Somerset County!
