Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association (SCRTA) and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy worked together to protect 50 acres of woodlands along the GAP.
The land includes mature hardwood forests between the trail and Casselman River. Dense rhododendron thickets line the opposite steep hillside.
SCRTA provided funding for the project from the GAP Land Acquisition Fund of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. The fund was established in 1999 with a grant from the Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation.
