New GAP “Mile 0” in Cumberland, MD

New GAP Mile Zero Medallion Unveiled

On April 21, the Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy board and staff unveiled a new “mile zero” marker for the Great Allegheny Passage at Canal Place in Cumberland, Maryland.

The bronze medallion, measuring 48 inches in diameter and encased in a polished granite slab, honors Cumberland’s position as a historic transportation hub and evokes a similar marker at Point State Park.

Created by Landesberg Design with input from volunteers at Mountain Maryland Trails, the plaque was fabricated and installed with private donations and proceeds from TrailGuide.
